Overview
Under general direction, performs work of average to considerable difficulty in the journey-level performance of building maintenance, construction, repair and alteration of City facilities, buildings and equipment to include the primary fields of carpentry; plumbing; wood working and crafts work; electrical; heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC); etc.; demonstrates a full understanding of all applicable policies, procedures and work methods associated with assigned duties; performs other related duties as required.
Primary Responsibilities
The Facilities Maintenance Technician is the journey level class responsible for a wide variety of maintenance, construction, repair and alteration tasks. Incumbents perform skilled work in carpentry, plumbing, wood working, painting, electrical, heating, welding and/or ventilation work. This classification is distinguished from the next higher classification of Electrical & Facilities Operations Manager in that the latter is responsible for overall management of the facilities division.
Minimum Qualifications
- At least three (3) years full time work experience in facilities maintenance that includes at a minimum work in plumbing, general carpentry, and general building maintenance
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Possession of a valid Class C California driver’s license, or equivalent license from another issuing government entity
Additional Information
Only those applicants who meet the qualification standards of this position by the application filing deadline will be allowed to participate in the examination process. Examination scores determine standing on Civil Service eligibility lists. The City Manager, upon recommendation of the department head, will make the final selection and appointment from the established eligibility list.
The examination process may consist of the following parts: Application Package Review: Qualifying Only; Oral Interview 100% Weight Value. Candidates must earn a score of 70% or higher to be considered for the eligibility list.
